Schilb Antiquarian Rare Books

A new retail antique bookstore has opened in downtown Columbia. Schilb Antiquarian Rare Books, located at 100 N. Providence Road, has an array of rare books, manuscripts and artwork for show and sale. Items sold by the store vary in price, ranging from a $50 piece of artwork to a $50,000 alchemy and herbal manual from the 16th century. Scott Schilb, the store’s owner, has been collecting antique books since his time in graduate school at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary 10 years ago.

9th Street Public House

The 9th Street Public House provides customers with a classic pub experience. Owner James Kanne refers to the pub as a cozy, casual and classy corner. Located at 36 N. Ninth St., 9th Street Public House specializes in local and craft beers and choice whiskey. It also serves traditional cocktails. Customers can bring food in from anywhere and relax and enjoy the seven televisions in the pub, one of which is a 130-inch high-definition projector. With continual rotation of its tap beers, 9th Street Public House prides itself on trying new things.

Advantage Metals Recycling LLC

With 16 facilities, Advantage Metals Recycling is Kansas and Missouri’s largest scrap recycler. Located at 705 Proctor Drive, AMR recylces unwanted metal household or farm items and pays cash in return. The company also recylces business and industrial items in an effort to benefit the environment, and it will purchase junk vehicles. AMR was founded in 1977 as Galamba Metals Group. In 2008, the business was purchased by The David J. Joseph Co. and renamed Advantage Metals Recycling.

BrightStar of Mid-Missouri

BrightStar of Mid-Missouri, which opened March 3, is a new home health care agency that provides care and staffing to people of all ages. Services include medical care, companion care, disability care and nursing care, among others. With the motto “making more possible,” BrightStar’s goal is to provide clients with as much attention as they need by offering a wide variety of care services. Services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The company is located at 108 E. Green Meadows Road, Suite 8.

A new digital marketing company has come to Columbia to bring together several technologies and create a one-source shop for companies that want to advertise digitally. Coegi, which is Latin for “to bring together,” offers management of digital advertising campaigns locally, regionally and nationally. The company focuses on real-time bidding and social media advertising. Some services of Coegi include banner, video and free roll advertising. Its goal is to implement ads across multiple Internet options using several technology platforms.

Hair Spectrum, The Red Door Salon LLC

Hair Spectrum, The Red Door Salon, is a hair salon in Columbia. Erika Haberstock has been running the business since Feb. 1, and she is the salon’s only employee. Located at 711 Vandiver Drive, Suite E, Hair Spectrum offers the typical array of services: hair cutting, coloring, highlights, lowlights, waxing, shampoo/condition services, etc. Eventually, Haberstock plans to bring in a nail technician to add manicures and pedicures to the list of services. Additionally, she plans to have one or two self-employed hair stylists rent booths from her.
