Handmade: Lindsay Acosta

Meet Lindsay Acosta, schoolteacher by day and jewelry designer by night. Lindsay took up the hobby of creating jewelry after her mother, who makes jewelry for fun as well.

“It’s a therapeutic and creative outlet for me,” Lindsay says. “I thought I would create and sell something that I love.”

Over the past several years Lindsay has spent time living in Chiang Mai, Thailand; Guadalajara, Mexico; Covington, Louisiana; El Paso, Texas; Phoenix, Arizona; and, most recently, Columbia. Her travels and unique experiences abroad have heavily influenced her work.

“Seeing natural beauty that I’ve never experienced, eating different foods, listening to worldly music, and witnessing unique fashion has opened up an artistic outlet that I never knew I possessed,” Lindsay says.

New to Columbia, Lindsay is continuing to explore the local art scene. The Etsy shop owner says she buys many of her beads online and spends just as much time gathering the perfect materials for her pieces as she does creating each one.

“I tend to incorporate beads from Africa and Tibet in my jewelry for more of an eclectic, tribal, and bohemian look,” Lindsay says.

Overall, Lindsay’s jewelry pieces have an ethnic or southwestern flair, but she also says her style is ever-changing.

“It changes with my clothing or matches whatever is influencing me at the time,” Lindsay says. “Looking back at pieces I’ve made, it seems like my style tends to be most greatly influenced by where I am living at the time.”
