People frequently ask me, “Anne, how do you do everything you do?”
My knee-jerk response is, “Because I love it.”
But it isn’t that simple. We go through life hoping it will be filled with things we love, like friends, family, pets, hobbies, and a dream job. Unfortunately, reality is reality, and we are human. Things change. We may lack certain critical skills for that dream job. Relationships shift. We settle for jobs that we aren’t passionate about because we must pay the bills.
Life is tough.
I absolutely love what I do, but each day is not a dream. Hauling large pieces of furniture, repairing holes in the wall, cleaning messes, and staying up until dawn are not the kinds of tasks you fantasize about as a child aspiring to be a designer. You fantasize about the creativity — that’s why I do what I do. For me, art is therapy. It relaxes me. It inspires me. It gives me a way to bond with others. It is my way of getting my emotions out.
My job is therapeutic and that is what keeps me going. What do you love?
