Booneanza Treasure Hunt Kicks Off Saturday

Village At Boone Junction

A community wide hunt for $32,000 worth of gems from Buchroeders begins Saturday in conjunction with the Popsicle Fest at the Boone County History & Culture Center at 3801 Ponderosa Street.

The unique event will challenge puzzling skills and Boone County knowledge. To celebrate 100 years of the Boone County Historical Society, “Booneanza” contestants will follow a series of clues that lead to a treasure chest filled with $32,000 worth of diamonds and gems. The first one to solve all the clues will win a box of treasure (diamonds, gems, rare coins, etc.) valued in excess of $32,000 and presented by Boone County Hall of Fame enshrinee Buchroeders Jewelers.

The county-wide, puzzle-based treasure hunt kicks off Saturday at the gazebo stage during “Popsicle Fest.” The Popsicle Fest is a free, family-oriented event with food and live music that gives a nod to another 100th anniversary – the 1924 invention of the popsicle. Every guest receives a free popsicle.

Winning the Booneanza requires no specialized knowledge or skills, but knowing a bit of local history will serve you well, as will good internet sleuthing skills. Expect riddles, codes, trivia, and the occasional bit of misdirection. Signup remains open until the treasure is discovered. Anyone can enter. You can play by yourself or with a group. Just fill out an entry form, pay the sign-up fee (every penny of which supports the year-round efforts of the BCHS) and wait for your first clue.
