Garrett Rucinski has worked in healthcare, banking, and international visa work (he spent a year living in Chile) before finding his place as the director of engagement at City of Refuge – and as a licensed foster parent and a DJ for his startup, Sound Story Events.
There’s also a certain future version of himself that keeps him grounded and motivated in each of his endeavors: “The ghost of my future,” which he describes as a legacy that can live on in his friends and family.
“It isn’t important that people specifically remember me, but I want to contribute to causes that live on long after I am gone,” Garrett explains.
His position at City of Refuge is not all about raising money. He adds, “Our country’s lineage, including many of our ancestors, is the story of people seeking refuge to find a place where they can thrive.”
Congratulations, Garrett, on being named one of CBT’s 2026 20 Under 40 honorees!
