Co-Owner/Director of Sales and Marketing, August Systems – Age: 32
After working as a manager and bartender for Columbia’s Boone Tavern for five years, Bridgid Miller sure knows how to show locals a good time. A 1996 graduate of the University of Missouri, Miller decided turned to more serious ways of serving up satisfaction to Columbians after obtaining a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences. In 1999 she started up her business, August Systems home entertainment and security, which focuses on exceeding retail store services through designing electronic systems that are simple and fun to use, while creating warm spaces for relaxing and entertaining.
Miller and her husband/business partner, Gary, have been married for 7 years and have a 2 ½-year-old daughter, Helen. When she’s not working, Miller enjoys running, entertaining, cooking, baking, playing the piano, listening to music, sampling wines with her wine club, watching Missouri sports, and relaxing with her friends and family.
“One area in which I hope to see growth in our city is the field of technology,” said Miller. “Working with technology, I am amazed at how quickly changes occur.”
To Miller it is important that her company not only is successful from a business perspective but that it is supportive of the community and its people. Miller is chapter advisory board chairman, house corporation board chairman and recruitment adviser for Kappa Delta Sorority. She’s a member of Rotary South, the Ronald McDonald House board of directors the “We Always Swing” Jazz Series advisory board, the Columbia Chamber of Commerce and the Custom Electronics Design and Installation Association.
“Columbia is a progressive city and needs to stay on the cutting edge of technological changes,” said Miller. “If we draw more tech-based companies and grow our biotechnology and information technology industries, we can easily become a technology center for the state and see further growth in our city.”
